Offsite Learning Excursions

Offsite learning excursions offered the chance to see project management in action! REGISTRATION IS CLOSED.

Session 201: Offsite Learning Excursion: ABB Vocational Training Center

Join us on an exciting tour through the ABB Training Factory in Berlin. Here, ABB focuses on the industrial requirements of tomorrow in the basic training of trainees and prepares them for a digital future of manufacturing. During their training in the factory, hundreds of trainees from 17 different apprenticeships learn basic technical skills using the latest technology and learn how to respond to challenges that arise in a production process.

The ABB Training Factory highlights the importance of collaborations with more than 160 ABB partner companies to strengthen the talent pool for Germany's future workforce. The “Learning Factory Industry 4.0” project underlines the importance for companies of further education and training to remain competitive in the market.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of training students and early career professionals as a means towards a strong future workforce; and
  • Analyze if there are ways in which training and workforce development can occur at their organizations and within their own work.

Session 202: Offsite Learning Excursion: Siemens Energy Switchgear Factory

This fascinating offsite learning excursion will take you on a tour of the Siemens Energy Switchgear Factory, as well as provide a presentation from Siemens Energy staff.

The factory is the largest production facility of its kind in the world and has a long tradition of being the birthplace of future-oriented switchgear technology. Here products and systems are created that help maintain the cost-effective and reliable transmission and distribution of electrical energy, both now and in the future. About 100 years of development experience as well as state-of-the-art laboratories and testing stations on-site ensure that Siemens switchgear systems will continue to set new industry-wide standards in terms of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and reliability. This has made it the companywide Competence Center for switchgear technology.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Describe how Siemens Energy has worked to “future-proof” their switchgear systems; and
  • Identify ways in which Siemens Energy has focused on innovations to make the plant and the equipment greener, safer, and more energy efficient.
